Position Summary:

The Market Medical Director has accountability for ensuring that United Clinical Advancement initiatives focusing on appropriate hospital utilization, affordability, clinical excellence, growth and focused improvement are implemented and successfully managed to achieve goals. This position is responsible for clinical leadership and execution of all healthcare affordability initiatives and clinical quality activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for appropriate utilization management.
Clinical lead for healthcare affordability initiatives at the local market.
Support UHN initiatives and Quality Affordability Programs as required in order to achieve the affordability and bed day goals of the Health Plan and United Clinical Advancement.
Oversee the HEDIS data collection process, CAHPS improvement, and drive Health Plan accreditation activities.
Support all Clinical Quality initiatives and peer review processes including QOC and QOS issues.
Effectively engage and bring understanding to our external constituents such as physicians, medical and specialty societies, hospitals and hospital associations, and state regulators.
Deliver the clinical value proposition focused on quality, affordability and service, in support of the sales and growth activities of the Health Plan including conducting Broker/Client presentations and participating in customer consultations.
Responsible for identifying opportunities through participation in local Medical Expense Committees or Market reviews.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Licensed physician REQUIRED
Board Certified in ABMS specialty; active, unrestricted license REQUIRED
5 years clinical practice experience REQUIRED
Supervisory skills, including clinical mentoring and coaching expertise
Excellent presentation skills for both clinical and non-clinical audiences
Excellent interpersonal communication skills (telephonic and face to face)
Knowledge of managed care industry
Data analysis and interpretation experience and skills
Strong belief in EBM philosophy
