Job Overview

The Instrument/Sterile Processing Technician Certified is an essential role in patient safety and infection control by ensuring surgical instruments, endoscopes and patient care equipment is decontaminated, reprocessed, and maintained. The Certified Technician operates several types of surgical instrument sterilizers and decontamination equipment.

Multiple Shifts Are Available

  • Full time - Nights, 40 hours per week. 4 ten hour shifts Mon-Thurs 9-7:30am or 5 eight hour shifts Mon-Friday 11pm-7:30am. Eligible for benefits.
  • Full time - Weekends, 40 hours per week. Friday - Monday 4 ten hour shifts from 10am-8:30pm. Eligible for benefits.
  • Part time - Evenings, 12 hours per week. This would be broken up into three 4 hour shifts or two 6 hour shifts. Not eligible for benefits.

Qualifications
  • Education: High School or GED
  • Experience: 1-year related experience
  • Certification(s): Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT)
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  1. Inspects and assembles surgical instruments, equipment, trays and packs.
  2. Fills surgery case carts from predetermined listings; may deliver case carts to surgical floor.
  3. Identifies and reports supply, equipment, and procedure problems.
  4. Assists in the orientation and continuing education of lower-level Sterile Processing Technicians, fostering a culture of collaboration and effective communication within the department.
  5. Maintains established departmental standards by adhering to policies and procedures, contributing to quality assurance initiatives.
  6. Render used items clean and decontaminated manually or mechanically by following established policies and procedures in the decontamination area for instruments, supplies, carts and equipment.
  7. Participates in achieving departmental sterilization objectives by following policies and procedures related to assembly, inspection, sterilization, storage, and proper handling of instrument trays, supplies, and equipment.
  8. Develops and maintains expert knowledge of surgical service, sterile process, or instrument classification.
  9. Collaborates with other Sterile Processing Departments within the organization to address staffing challenges.

Complexity: Falls between the entry and full performance/senior level. Duties assigned are generally repetitive and restricted in scope but may be of substantial intricacy. Employee primarily applies standardized practices.

Decision Making: Decisions or recommendations on non-standardized situations are limited to relating organizational policies to specific cases. Brings non routine issues to supervisor. Problems that are not covered by guidelines or that are without precedent are taken up with the supervisor.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $36,536.65 to $54,804.97
Hourly Salary Range: $17.57 to $26.35
