The Role

The Control System Engineer will work as part of the Global Control Systems Engineering Team to design, specify, commission, and provide project management for instrumentation and control systems supporting production and utility systems used in batch & continuous specialty chemical manufacturing operations.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

Instrumentation, Electrical, PLC, and other control systems' support - 40%

The person will be responsible for configuring and programming of the PLC's, data historian systems, operator interface or HMI screens, as well as, developing the scope, instrument specifications, procurement requisitions, installation, and commissioning of all the instrumentation and control systems equipment globally. These activities include seeking and adapting new technology to increase quality, safety, productivity, and efficiency in manufacturing and pilot plants through increased automation levels.

Improvement to existing automation level in manufacturing - 30%

Provides innovative & creative ideas and seek out opportunities to introduce automation to the routine activities in manufacturing and pilot plants. Determines the best control strategy for existing and new systems/processes.

Expert advice to various groups on modern control systems and process data systems - 20%

Plays a lead role in answering the questions and resolving the concerns related to process data systems, including help to various groups to interpret and understand the manufacturing data. Champions the changes (capital or non-capital) to improve performance in these areas.

Maintain & improve existing instrumentation, PLC, and control systems at various sites - 10%

Maintain control systems equipment, software, and hardware through direct involvement and setting up resources such as outside contractors, training other maintenance and operations personnel, etc. A close coordination with operations, plant process engineers, R&D commercialization engineers, and maintenance personnel will be required for the routine support to the plants.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

    B.S. degree in chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering with certifications in various vendor training programs.
  • Ten years of practical experience is required in the field of instrumentation, process control system design, and programming of PLCs and HMI software, especially, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley and GE Digital products. Prior experience in a batch and continuous chemical or pharmaceutical environment is desirable.
  • Scope development, design, scheduling, project management, and commissioning of assigned projects, both, independently and with the help of engineering firms.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines by creatively solving problems.
  • Must be capable of managing several tasks/projects simultaneously. Gathers and interprets customer (internal) functional requirements and re-interprets them to prepare functional control descriptions for Control System programmers.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and shift previously established priorities in response to changing business needs.
  • Work in a collaborative manner with production management, project engineering, process engineers, commercialization engineers, quality engineers, IT engineers, and others.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position that requires candidates to successfully pass a post-offer drug screening prior to employment. One of the essential job functions is the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

PAY RANGE: The pay range for this role is estimated at $110,000/yr - $130,000/yr with actual wage based on candidate's qualifications and experience.
