Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Mining Water Quality Engineer or Scientist in our Lakewood, Greenwood Village, Colorado Springs, or our Northern Colorado offices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    Work in all aspects of water quality for mining projects including sampling design, site-specific standards development, discharge permitting, regulatory agency interaction, and providing testimony for litigation on permits;
  • Develop documents, including expert opinions and technical specifications;
  • Stormwater design and permitting is desired;
  • Work under minimal supervision and lead projects or tasks with a firm understanding of the goals and objectives of our clients;
  • Management and mentoring of junior staff and managing subcontractors;
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
  • Review and manage written document production;
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, legal counsel, regulatory personnel, and other parties;
  • Work with other professionals to develop new mining and water quality clients for the firm; and
  • At times, job may also include fieldwork including travel to select project locations throughout the Rockies Region (CO, NM, UT, MT, WY).
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, mining, civil, water resources, surface water engineering, water quality/treatment engineering, geology, or geochemistry or related degree. (required)
  • Advanced degree in a relevant discipline. (preferred)
  • Professional certification (P.E., P.G. or equivalent) or ability to obtain when eligible. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 7 years (8 years preferred) of related water quality experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Geology/Geochemistry education or experience. (preferred)
  • Experience with all aspects of water quality in relation to NPDES discharge permits, with a preference for Colorado experience. (required)
  • Experience with surface water management. (required)
  • Experience with Mine Permitting. (preferred)
  • Knowledgeable of CWA, NPDES, CDPHE, DRMS regulations (required).
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies (EPA, CDPHE, CPW). (preferred).
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below is the range that we in good faith believe is the potential compensation for this role at the time of this posting and is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $87,150 / Maximum Salary: $158,605 (Colorado Springs)
  • Minimum Salary: $91,505 / Maximum Salary: $166,535 (Lakewood, Greenwood Village, Lafayette)
